Position Summary:

In a job shop environment, manages and coordinates the work of the drafting and engineering staff, both in-house and outsourced, as they produce detailed submittal drawings for approvals and the shop drawings necessary for the fabrication of properly dimensioned and shaped cast stone and architectural precast concrete pieces used for bridge, building and masonry construction. Manages and integrates outsourced structural engineers with in-house layout and drafting activities.

Scope:

General supervision of the drafting staff to ensure that accurate shop drawings are produced in a timely fashion to meet production requirements and job site schedules. Performs layout and shop drawings. Implements company policy and procedures to meet the needs of the customer, company and necessary compliance.

Duties:

  • Timely flow of submittal drawings and piece drawings to production.

  • Is responsible for mentoring and leading engineering staff in the proper detailing of precast products.

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Engineering department and outsource services.

  • Directs drafting department in preparation of drawings, procedures, sketches, etc., necessary for the detailing of product efficiently, properly and within schedule and scope requirements.

  • Continually works with other departments to improve the flow of information and communicate positively to accomplish the goals of the team and company.

  • Follow and maintain established company standards and procedures.

  • Prepares R.F.I.’s and identify out of scope items and provide direction for change requests.

  • Maintains systems for resource and schedule control.

  • Understand over time best practices for detailing product and its effect on cost of production

  • and schedule.

  • Ensure industry compliance with applicable standards and specifications: i.e. PCI, ACI, APA, CSI, etc. – We will train on this as required.

  • Performs other Engineering duties as assigned.

  • Assists sales and production departments in problem solving and in pre-sale/pre-engineering discussions.

  • Employee Relations: Must facilitate good working relationships among subordinates and other departments

  • Responsible for proper staffing of department, providing constant evaluation and improvement of all staff members using metrics to measure performance.

  • Must be able to function in a changing, growing environment. Ability to manage multiple projects and varied stages of completion with can do attitude and continuous learning approach.

  • Contacts with persons inside or outside the company where matters discussed require resourcefulness, tact, and a working knowledge of policies, practices and procedures.

Education and K.S.A.’s:

  • B.S. Degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering; P.E. licensure not required. • Minimum of 7 years in commercial construction/masonry stone industry.

  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.

  • Auto Desk , AutoCAD and Revit experience in 2D and 3D with knowledge of MS Office products.

  • Must be extremely organized with ability to concisely communicate with others.

  • Ability to visualize and engineer non-rectilinear shapes

  • Experience in the structural engineering of precast elements desired.

  • Must be self-motivated, disciplined and managed.

  • Must have understanding and practice standard drafting techniques and procedures.

  • Experience in the application of cast stone and precast concrete elements of building construction highly desired.

  • Auto Desk Inventor experience desired.

Compensation:

$ 65,000.00 +, DOE
